PIM SelectionThe independent guide to choosing a PIM

Best PIM for B2B manufacturers: a criteria-based shortlist

No single PIM is best for every B2B manufacturer. Fit depends on the technical data model, the ERP and commerce ecosystem, and the team's capacity to configure the system. Akeneo, Inriver, Perfion, Pimcore, Stibo Systems, Struct and Viamedici have documented profiles that match B2B manufacturer criteria and belong on the longlist for the evidence check before scenario demos.

Which PIM is best for B2B manufacturers?

No single PIM is best for every B2B manufacturer. Fit depends on three things: the technical data model, the ERP and commerce ecosystem around the PIM, and the team's capacity to configure and run it. This page names the criteria that decide fit for manufacturers and the vendors whose documented profile matches them.

The vendors below are listed alphabetically. No vendor paid for inclusion, and the vendor records carry no sponsorship field, as set out in the neutrality policy. Treat the list as a starting point for scenario demos, drawn from the PIM vendor directory.

Manufacturers that sell through wholesalers should also read the shortlist for distributors and wholesalers. Manufacturers running SAP ERP should compare this list with the SAP ecosystem shortlist.

What B2B manufacturers need from a PIM

B2B manufacturers need a PIM that models technical products precisely and integrates cleanly with ERP. In PIMvendors selections, six criteria separate suitable vendors from the rest:

  • Technical attribute modelling: hundreds of typed attributes per family, units of measure, value lists and inheritance. Free-text attributes break downstream feeds.
  • Classification standards: native ETIM or ECLASS classes and features, because wholesalers request classified data. The ETIM standard page explains the requirement.
  • Product relationships: kits, spare parts, accessories and configurable products with typed, buyer-configurable relations. Machine and component makers depend on this.
  • ERP master split: the ERP owns item numbers, prices and logistics data, and the PIM owns enrichment. The connector must respect that split per attribute.
  • B2B output formats: BMEcat catalogues, print catalogues and datasheets alongside webshop feeds. Many manufacturers still sell from printed or PDF catalogues.
  • Compliance readiness: structured data for the Digital Product Passport under ESPR, with source and owner per value.

Team capacity sits across all six criteria. A configurable framework needs developers or a partner, while a standard SaaS PIM needs a data owner with time.

Vendors whose profile matches

Seven vendors match the B2B manufacturer criteria on their documented profile. Each entry states why the vendor is here, one limitation, and one scenario to run.

Akeneo

Why it is on this list

Akeneo scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers in its editorial fit record and offers SaaS plus an open source Community Edition. The Akeneo App Store lists Akeneo-published accelerators for SAP S/4HANA. The Supplier Data Manager add-on covers supplier onboarding. The same fit record treats very deep B2B technical models as outside Akeneo's core scope.

Check in the demo

Run SC-06, model kits, spare parts and accessories. Akeneo should configure relationship types without code and export kit quantities correctly.

Inriver

Why it is on this list

Inriver scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers and for mid-sized companies. SAP certified its S/4HANA Cloud Connector on 28 May 2026, and Inriver sells syndication and digital shelf analytics as modules. Inriver publishes no prices, so total cost depends on which modules your scenarios need.

Check in the demo

Run SC-15, deliver a BMEcat catalogue with ETIM features. The file must validate against the wholesaler's schema without manual edits.

Perfion

Why it is on this list

Perfion scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers and for B2B technical data, with a fast time-to-value profile. Perfion names integrations with Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance, SAP Business One and SAP S/4HANA. Built-in DAM and print catalogue output come in the standard product. Perfion's enterprise fit score is 0, and the Boyum ownership warrants a roadmap question.

Check in the demo

Run SC-25, create items from ERP with a clear master split. ERP-mastered attributes must be read-only in Perfion.

Pimcore

Why it is on this list

Pimcore scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers and for high data complexity. It runs PIM, MDM and DAM on one framework, and Professional is listed at USD 9,900 per year with no product, asset or seat limits. Value depends heavily on the implementation partner, and Pimcore 12 moved the Community Edition to the POCL licence.

Check in the demo

Run SC-05, add a new product family with inherited attributes. A business administrator must complete the change without developer support.

Stibo Systems

Why it is on this list

Stibo Systems scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers, B2B technical data and multidomain MDM. STEP governs product data alongside supplier, customer and location data, and Stibo lists SAP material master connectivity. Stibo Systems sizes STEP for enterprise programmes, and all feature updates are exclusive to SaaS customers.

Check in the demo

Run SC-18, assemble a Digital Product Passport data set. Each data point must show its source, owner and last update.

Struct

Why it is on this list

Struct scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers and distributors, with published prices from EUR 2,200 per month. An ETIM Connector App and a Publications add-on for print are on the price list. Struct's presence outside the Nordics is limited, and the entry plan includes 5 users and 3 languages.

Check in the demo

Run SC-01, onboard 5,000 supplier SKUs and classify to ETIM. Units and value lists must normalise during import.

Viamedici

Why it is on this list

Viamedici scores 2 of 2 for manufacturers, B2B technical data and multidomain MDM. It combines MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ configuration for configurable products, and Viamedici describes EPIM as SAP-certified. Implementations are enterprise-scale and longer, and a vendor-run SaaS option is unverified.

Check in the demo

Run SC-29, search and filter a catalogue of 500,000 SKUs. Search must return in under 2 seconds on your attribute structure.

How do the shortlisted vendors compare?

The shortlisted vendors differ most in deployment model and in how much of the manufacturer scope they cover natively. The table summarises documented facts only.

Vendor Deployment Focus Documented segment evidence
Akeneo SaaS, open source self-hosted PIM for brands and manufacturers Akeneo accelerators for SAP S/4HANA (App Store)
Inriver SaaS PIM with syndication and shelf analytics SAP-certified S/4HANA Cloud Connector (May 2026)
Perfion SaaS, on-premise, private cloud Standard PIM with DAM for B2B Dynamics 365 and SAP ERP integrations, print output
Pimcore On-premise, private cloud, PaaS PIM, MDM and DAM framework No product, asset or seat limits (Professional, Enterprise)
Stibo Systems SaaS, on-premise Multidomain MDM SAP material master connectivity
Struct SaaS Nordic B2B and B2C PIM ETIM Connector App, EUR 230 per month
Viamedici On-premise, private cloud MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ SAP-certified (vendor statement)

Vendors that did not make this list, and why

The remaining profiled vendors match fewer of the six criteria on their documented profile. Each can still fit a specific manufacturer.

  • Bluestone PIM, Censhare, Pimberly, Plytix, Quable, Salsify and Syndigo centre on retail, brand content or syndication.
  • Centric PXM scores 2 for manufacturers, with its centre of gravity on brand content, feeds and shelf analytics. Consumer-facing manufacturers should see the brands and retailers shortlist.
  • Informatica fits manufacturers inside an enterprise multidomain MDM programme and appears on the enterprise shortlist.
  • Sales Layer scores 0 for high data complexity, and its published plans stop at 200,000 SKUs before custom terms.
  • SyncForce specialises in packaged goods and scores 0 for B2B technical data.

How to use this shortlist

Use this shortlist to seed a longlist, then narrow it with your own requirements. Run the Fit Finder below, which opens with the manufacturer profile pre-selected.

1. Company size
2. Business model
3. Data complexity

Variants, relationships and technical attributes per product.

4. Regions where you need local support
5. Ecosystem
6. Needs that matter most (choose up to three)
  1. Adjust size, region and ecosystem in the PIM Fit Finder.
  2. Apply your hard constraints with the longlist-to-shortlist method.
  3. Pick 8 to 12 scenarios from the demo scenario library, including those named above.
  4. Read the relevant comparisons: Stibo Systems vs Viamedici, Perfion vs Struct, Akeneo vs Pimcore and Inriver vs Stibo Systems.

Bring one kit, one spare part list and one ETIM class to every demo. A manufacturer learns more from those three objects than from a two-hour product tour.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best PIM for a B2B manufacturer?

No PIM is best for every B2B manufacturer. The right PIM depends on how technical the product data is, which ERP and commerce systems surround it, and how much configuration capacity the team has. Akeneo, Inriver, Perfion, Pimcore, Stibo Systems, Struct and Viamedici match the segment profile. Scenario demos on the manufacturer's own data decide between them.

Does a manufacturer need ETIM or ECLASS support in its PIM?

A manufacturer that supplies wholesalers in electrical, installation, building or industrial markets needs ETIM or ECLASS support, because distributors request classified data with standard features. The PIM should store classes and features natively, export them in BMEcat, and keep units and value codes correct. Manufacturers selling only through their own channels can treat classification standards as a lower priority.

Should a manufacturer choose a PIM or a multidomain MDM?

A manufacturer should choose a multidomain MDM when product data must be governed together with supplier, customer and location data in one programme. Stibo Systems and Viamedici cover that scope. A manufacturer whose main problem is enriching and publishing product data is usually better served by a PIM with a clear ERP integration. Define the master split first, then decide.

How long does a PIM implementation take for a manufacturer?

Implementation time for a manufacturer depends on data model complexity, the number of integrations and data migration quality. Vendors with a fast time-to-value profile, such as Perfion and Struct, suit teams with a standard model. Enterprise platforms such as Stibo Systems and Viamedici carry longer programmes. Ask each vendor for a plan based on your own scenarios before comparing timelines.

Why are vendors on this shortlist listed alphabetically?

The vendors on this shortlist are listed alphabetically because PIM Selection does not rank PIM vendors. The vendor records carry no sponsorship or partner-tier field, so no commercial input can change the order. Ranking only makes sense against a buyer's own validated requirements, which is what scenario demos and the demo scorecard are for.
