PIM SelectionThe independent guide to choosing a PIM

Stibo Systems vs Viamedici: which PIM fits your situation

Stibo Systems and Viamedici both sell enterprise platforms that combine multidomain MDM, PIM and DAM. Stibo Systems STEP runs as SaaS on Azure or on-premise, with new features for SaaS only. Viamedici EPIM/5 adds CPQ product configuration and runs cloud, hybrid or on-premise. The deciding factor is configurable products plus your hosting requirement.

Choose Stibo Systems when

  • Large enterprises that want vendor-run SaaS on Azure with the latest features first
  • Programmes governing customer, supplier, location and business partner data alongside product data
  • Organisations that want agent access to governed master data through an MCP Server

Choose Viamedici when

  • Manufacturers with configurable products that want PIM and CPQ configuration on one platform
  • Buyers that need cloud, hybrid or on-premise operation in a cloud-agnostic setup
  • German-speaking manufacturers with SAP landscapes and technical B2B catalogues

The core difference

Stibo Systems is SaaS-first multidomain MDM, and Viamedici adds product configuration to MDM and PIM with free choice of hosting. Stibo Systems, based in Aarhus and owned by the Stibo Foundation, sells STEP for product, customer, supplier, location, sustainability and business partner data. Viamedici, founded in 1999 in Ettlingen and privately held, sells EPIM/5 with modules for multidomain MDM, PIM 360, DAM and configuration with CPQ.

Hosting is the clearest commercial split. Stibo STEP runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure or on-premise, and its 2026.1 documentation states that feature updates are exclusive to SaaS customers. Viamedici states that EPIM/5 is cloud-agnostic and runs cloud-based, hybrid or on-premise. Its pages do not describe a SaaS edition or an on-premise release policy.

Product focus differs at the edge. Viamedici targets manufacturers with technical and configurable products, with supplier, media and sales portals in PIM 360. Stibo targets large enterprises across manufacturing, distribution and retail, with a Supplier Data Cloud and Product Data Syndication.

AI positioning differs in direction. Stibo launched an MCP Server in June 2026 and the AgentWorkx engine in September 2026, aimed at agents working on governed master data. Viamedici lists an AI co-pilot, auto-translation and image recognition inside its modules. PIMvendors' view is that AI scales for extraction, translation, classification and descriptions, and remains unreliable for compliance data and end-to-end agentic workflows.

PIMvendors has hands-on consulting experience with both Stibo STEP and Viamedici. Both have sourced records in the PIM vendor directory.

Scenario by scenario

These five tests from the demo scenario library target points where Stibo STEP and Viamedici are likely to behave differently. Use your own technical sample data.

  1. SC-06, model kits, spare parts and accessories. Viamedici's configuration module targets configurable products, so test kits with quantities and accessories linked to many products. Ask Stibo to model the same structure with typed references. Rename one component and check that relationships survive.
  2. SC-15, deliver a BMEcat catalogue with ETIM features. Neither vendor documents BMEcat or ETIM output on the pages reviewed. Ask both to generate a BMEcat file for a named wholesaler that validates without manual edits.
  3. SC-25, create items from ERP with a clear master split. Stibo lists an SAP material master connector, and Viamedici describes SAP-certified integration. Test attribute ownership, ERP updates on enriched items and the failure log.
  4. SC-02, supplier self-service onboarding with validation. Viamedici lists a supplier portal in PIM 360, and Stibo a Supplier Data Cloud. Check that approved records land in the catalogue without manual transfer and that rejection comments reach the supplier.
  5. SC-29, search and filter a catalogue of 500,000 SKUs. Viamedici claims 100M+ records managed and Stibo sells to large enterprises. Load your attribute structure with four locales and time search and combined filters live on the hosting model you will buy.

Pricing model contrast

Both vendors quote, so the comparison rests on module and hosting scope. Stibo Systems publishes no prices. Ask for a product-only quote alongside any multidomain scope, and for the cost of environments, connectors and ProductGen AI. SaaS can be procured through Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

Viamedici also publishes no prices, and its site directs buyers to a demo or sales. EPIM/5 lets companies start with one module and add others, so request prices per module: MDM, PIM 360, DAM, portals and configuration. Ask how cloud, hybrid and on-premise operation change the price and the support model.

Hosting changes the cost model on the Stibo side. On-premise STEP customers do not receive new features, so price a later SaaS move into the business case. For Viamedici on-premise, ask how releases and upgrades are delivered and charged. PIMvendors' negotiation advice applies to both: anchor high and keep the deeper discount as fallback. The TCO calculator helps compare hosting models over five years.

Migrating between Stibo Systems and Viamedici

Migration between Stibo STEP and Viamedici is an enterprise re-platforming across several domains. Both platforms hold technical product data with deep relationships, so mapping effort is high.

  1. Data model mapping. Export attributes, hierarchies, references, units and value lists per domain. Map spare part and accessory relationships with their types, and rebuild configuration rules where CPQ is in scope. Reconcile record counts per domain and per language.
  2. Integrations and portals. Rebuild the SAP integration and test it with a full extract. Supplier, media and sales portals carry external users, so plan re-invitation and communication.
  3. Contract terms. On-premise licences and SaaS subscriptions carry different exit terms. Check notice periods, export formats and exit assistance, and confirm who owns custom extensions.

Run both platforms in parallel until channel output and portal content match. The guide to replacing your PIM covers cut-over.

How to decide

Stibo STEP and Viamedici overlap on enterprise MDM and PIM, so the choice turns on a few specific criteria.

  • Configurable products. If guided selling and CPQ configuration belong in the same platform as product data, test Viamedici's configuration module in depth.
  • Hosting. Buyers that want vendor-run SaaS with the newest features should weigh Stibo SaaS. Buyers that need hybrid or on-premise with ongoing releases should confirm Viamedici's release policy in writing.
  • Domain breadth. Location, sustainability and business partner data point to Stibo's wider domain list. Test only the domains you will govern in year one.
  • Region and partners. Viamedici's base is Germany, and Stibo's partner programme is global. Score local partner capacity with the implementation partner scorecard.
  • AI evidence. Run SC-20 and SC-08 with both vendors on your own datasheets and translations.

Read the Stibo Systems vendor profile and the Viamedici vendor profile, then run your profile through the PIM Fit Finder. Script both demos from the demo scenarios library.

Stibo STEP and Viamedici look alike on a feature list, so the scenarios must do the separating. Bring a configurable product, a spare parts structure and your SAP extract, and watch who configures and who codes.

Frequently asked questions

Does Viamedici offer CPQ like Stibo Systems?

Viamedici EPIM/5 includes a configuration and CPQ module for real-time product configuration and guided selling in B2B and B2C, pulling descriptions, images and prices from the PIM. Stibo Systems does not list a CPQ module on the pages reviewed on 14 October 2026. Manufacturers with configurable products should test configuration scope with both vendors and their CPQ partners.

Can Stibo STEP and Viamedici run on-premise?

Both can. Stibo STEP runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure or on-premise, and its 2026.1 documentation states that feature updates are exclusive to SaaS customers. Viamedici states that EPIM/5 runs cloud-based, hybrid or on-premise and is cloud-agnostic. Ask Viamedici in writing how on-premise customers receive new releases.

Do Stibo Systems and Viamedici integrate with SAP?

Stibo Systems lists a connector for SAP material master data. Viamedici describes EPIM/5 as SAP-certified with end-to-end ERP integration, and lists SAP as a supported option for PIM, MDM and configuration. Run scenario SC-25 with both on your own SAP extract, testing attribute ownership and failed record handling.

Which master data domains do Stibo Systems and Viamedici cover?

Stibo Systems covers product, customer, supplier, location, sustainability and business partner data on one multidomain foundation. Viamedici lists suppliers, customers, products, accounts and markets or regions in its MDM module. Both cover the core domains most manufacturers need, so test the domains you will govern in year one.

Do Stibo Systems and Viamedici publish prices?

Neither vendor publishes prices. Both quote, and Viamedici's site directs buyers to a demo or sales. Ask both for a three-year price covering the modules your demo scenarios used, including MDM domains, DAM, portals, configuration, environments and AI. Stibo SaaS can also be procured through Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
