PIM selection templates
PIM Selection offers seven PIM selection templates, one for each critical step: a business case template, a requirements checklist, an RFP builder, a demo scorecard, a selection team RACI, a contract checklist and an implementation partner scorecard. Each template follows the PIMvendors sequence of Data, then Process, then People, then Tooling.
Templates in order of use
Use the templates in the order a selection runs, starting with the business case. The sequence follows the 12-week PIM selection method: justify the investment, define requirements, issue the RFP, score demos, then contract and implement.
| Step | Template | Stage | Use it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | PIM business case template | Prepare | Quantify cost, benefit and risk for the buying committee |
| 2 | Selection team RACI | Prepare | Assign who is responsible, accountable, consulted and informed |
| 3 | PIM requirements checklist | Prepare | Select and prioritise requirements across the four domains |
| 4 | PIM RFP builder | Evaluate | Turn prioritised requirements into an RFP vendors can answer |
| 5 | PIM demo scorecard | Evaluate | Score scenario demos on the same criteria for every vendor |
| 6 | PIM contract checklist | Decide | Check licence, service levels, exit and data ownership terms |
| 7 | Implementation partner scorecard | Implement | Compare implementation partners on method, team and references |
Start with requirements, then the paperwork
The requirements checklist feeds every template that follows it. The RFP builder, the demo scorecard and the contract checklist all reuse the requirements a buyer marks as critical. A buyer who skips the checklist ends up scoring demos against vendor features instead of business needs.
The checklist covers four domains: Data model and quality, Process and governance, Integration and syndication, and Platform and vendor. The domains come from the PIMvendors method, which holds 400+ requirements in full.
Buyers unsure whether they are ready to start can take the PIM Readiness Score first. It places the organisation on a five-level maturity scale with 12 questions.
Templates save time only when the requirements behind them are validated. Start with the checklist, then fill in the rest.
