Which PIM works with SAP?
Many PIM platforms integrate with SAP, so selection depends on integration criteria. These are the SAP release (ECC or S/4HANA), the integration method, which system masters each attribute, data flow direction and frequency, and partner experience. PIM Selection's SAP ecosystem shortlist applies these criteria and lists vendors alphabetically.
Most enterprise and mid-market PIM platforms can integrate with SAP, so the choice depends on integration criteria. PIM Selection does not rank vendors, and its SAP ecosystem shortlist applies the criteria below with vendors listed alphabetically.
Five criteria decide SAP fit:
- SAP release: ECC and S/4HANA differ in data structures and integration options, and the PIM must support your target state.
- Integration method: a standard connector, middleware or custom APIs, each with a different maintenance cost.
- Mastering split: SAP usually masters item number, status, prices and logistics, while the PIM masters descriptive attributes, assets and channel content.
- Data flow: direction, frequency and volume, for example a daily material sync or real-time status updates.
- Partner experience: implementation partners with SAP and PIM projects in your industry and region.
PIMvendors estimate: integration typically accounts for 20 to 40 percent of PIM implementation effort, so price the SAP integration as its own line in every quote.
In PIMvendors selections, SAP integration is a demo scenario: the vendor shows a material record arriving from SAP and an enriched product flowing to a channel. Ask for reference customers on the same SAP release, and check who maintains the connector after each upgrade.
