The PIM Landscape Map: 18 vendors by business model and data scope
The PIM Landscape Map places 18 PIM, PXM and MDM vendors on two axes. The horizontal axis shows the primary business model served, from B2B technical and industrial to B2C brand and retail. The vertical axis shows data scope, from focused PIM to PXM and multidomain MDM. Positions are an editorial assessment by PIMvendors and carry no ranking.
How should you read the PIM Landscape Map?
The PIM Landscape Map shows which business model each vendor serves first and how wide its data scope reaches. It places the 18 vendors from the PIM vendor directory on two axes. Positions are an editorial assessment by PIMvendors and carry no ranking.

Read the map in three steps:
- Find your own business model on the horizontal axis.
- Decide how much data scope you need on the vertical axis.
- Look at the vendors near that point, then test them on your own data.
Distance from the centre means nothing about quality. A vendor in a corner is specialised, and a vendor near the middle serves several models. Both can be the right choice. The map also carries no sponsorship or partner-tier input, in line with the neutrality policy.
What does the horizontal axis measure?
The horizontal axis shows the primary business model a vendor serves. B2B technical and industrial sits on the left, and B2C brand and retail on the right. The axis reflects who the vendor builds for first.
Vendors on the left serve manufacturers and distributors with technical attributes, classification standards such as ETIM, configurable products and ERP-led processes. Vendors on the right serve consumer brands and retailers with marketing content, marketplace feeds and retailer syndication.
Position on this axis starts from the fit scores in each vendor record. Those scores rate manufacturer, distributor, brand and retailer fit on a 0 to 2 scale. The B2B technical need score and the vendor's own stated focus then refine the position. A vendor that scores equally for manufacturers and brands sits near the middle.
What does the vertical axis measure?
The vertical axis shows data scope, from focused PIM at the bottom to PXM and multidomain MDM at the top. It reflects how many kinds of data and content the platform manages.
A focused PIM masters product attributes and assets for channels. Moving up, vendors add DAM, syndication networks, digital shelf analytics and supplier portals, which together form product experience management. At the top, vendors master product data alongside customer, supplier and location data in one MDM.
The PIM vs PXM guide and the PIM vs MDM guide explain where each boundary sits. A higher position means a broader scope, which also tends to mean a longer implementation. In the vendor records, most vendors in the top band carry a long time-to-value assessment. Buyers who need a fast start should weigh that before reaching upwards.
Which criteria decide a vendor's position?
Six published criteria decide each position, drawn from the verified facts and fit scores in each vendor record. The criteria are the same for every vendor.
| Criterion | Axis | Input from the vendor record | Effect on position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business model fit | Horizontal | Fit scores for manufacturer, distributor, brand and retailer (0 to 2) | Higher B2B scores move left; higher brand and retail scores move right |
| B2B technical need | Horizontal | Fit score for technical B2B data (0 to 2) | A score of 2 moves left |
| Stated focus | Horizontal | Vendor focus statement | Confirms or adjusts the lean |
| Multidomain MDM | Vertical | Verified multidomain MDM flag and MDM need score | Moves to the top band |
| PXM components | Vertical | DAM, syndication network, shelf analytics, supplier portal, CPQ | Each confirmed component moves up |
| Readability | Both | Distance to neighbouring points | Points are kept at least 0.06 apart on a 0 to 1 scale |
Unverified fields count as absent until the vendor confirms them. The per-vendor positions, with a one-sentence basis each, are published as a data file alongside the map.
Which vendors sit in each area of the map?
The four areas group vendors with similar starting points, listed alphabetically within each area. Use the area as a longlist filter, never as a verdict.
| Area | Vendors |
|---|---|
| B2B technical, focused PIM (bottom left) | Perfion, Sales Layer, Struct |
| B2B technical, PXM and multidomain (top left) | Informatica, Pimcore, Stibo Systems, Viamedici |
| B2C brand and retail, focused PIM (bottom right) | Akeneo, Bluestone PIM, Pimberly, Plytix, Quable, SyncForce |
| B2C brand and retail, PXM and multidomain (top right) | Censhare, Centric PXM, Inriver, Salsify, Syndigo |
Akeneo, Centric PXM, Informatica and Inriver sit close to the vertical centre line, because they score similarly across business models. Buyers with mixed models should look there first. The PIM Fit Finder scores vendors on your own size, model, region and needs.
How are positions maintained and challenged?
PIMvendors updates the map once a year, and every vendor has a right of reply. Positions follow the vendor records, so they change when the verified facts change.
A vendor that disagrees with its position can submit evidence, such as product documentation or a public capability page. PIMvendors reviews that evidence against the placement criteria above and records the outcome in the vendor record. Payment, sponsorship and partner status play no part in the review.
Between annual editions, material events such as acquisitions are logged in the vendor records. In 2025 and 2026 these included acquisitions involving Centric PXM, Informatica, Salsify and Syndigo. In PIMvendors selections, such changes prompt a contract review before they move a vendor on the map.

Frequently asked questions
Does a position further from the centre mean a better PIM vendor?
Distance from the centre of the PIM Landscape Map says nothing about quality. A vendor far to the right serves brands and retailers more than technical B2B buyers, and a vendor near the top covers a broader data scope. Neither direction is better. The right position depends on your business model and on how many data domains you need to master.
How often is the PIM Landscape Map updated?
PIMvendors updates the PIM Landscape Map once a year, using the vendor records in PIM Selection directory at that date. Material events, such as an acquisition or a change in product scope, are logged in the vendor record between updates and reflected in the next annual edition. Each edition states the date of the underlying vendor facts.
Can a vendor challenge its position on the map?
Every vendor on the PIM Landscape Map has a right of reply. A vendor can submit evidence, such as product documentation or a public capability description, that its business model or data scope differs from the placement. PIMvendors reviews the evidence against the published placement criteria and records the outcome. Payment or partnership status plays no part in the review.
Why are some well-known PIM vendors missing from the map?
The PIM Landscape Map covers the 18 vendors profiled in PIM Selection directory, which PIMvendors meets most often in European selections. PIMvendors tracks 250+ PIM systems in total. Vendors are added to the directory, and then to the map, when buyer demand and available evidence justify a full record with verified facts.
