Scenario-based demo: definition and role in PIM
Scenario-based demo is a vendor evaluation method that requires each vendor to demonstrate the buyer's own use cases on the buyer's own sample data.
In PIM practice, scenarios are derived from validated requirements. Typical scenarios model the buyer's most complex product family, enrich a product through workflow, onboard a supplier file and export to two channels. Every vendor runs the same scenarios, which makes demos comparable and scoreable.
Illustrative example: a manufacturer sends three vendors a sample of 300 products, two supplier files and ten scenarios one week before the demo. The scoring team rates each scenario on result and effort.
In a selection, the scenario method is the core of PIMvendors' approach. Generic demos show polished sample data and predict nothing about the buyer's range. Scenario demos expose differences in data model flexibility, workflow depth and syndication within half a day per vendor. Scoring sheets prepared before the demos keep the evaluation consistent across vendors and evaluators.
