Salsify vs Syndigo: which PIM fits your situation
Salsify and Syndigo both connect brands to retailers through their own content networks and GDSN data pools. Salsify is a single SaaS product experience platform for consumer brands. Syndigo combines PXM, PIM and multidomain MDM from Riversand with the 1WorldSync network acquired in September 2025. The deciding factor is whether you need MDM beyond product data.
Choose Salsify when
- Consumer brands that want PIM, syndication, GDSN and shelf analytics on one SaaS platform
- Retailers that want supplier onboarding with schema checks through Supplier Experience Management
- Teams that want an embedded PXM agent for channel setup, formulas and workflows
Choose Syndigo when
- Brands and retailers that need MDM across products, suppliers, locations and customers
- Organisations that already publish through 1WorldSync GDSN and want continuity
- Brands that want ratings and reviews and social proof from the same vendor
The core difference
Salsify is one product experience platform, and Syndigo is a portfolio assembled around a network. Salsify, based in Boston, sells a SaaS platform with PIM, syndication through its PXM Network, a GS1-certified GDSN data pool, Digital Shelf Analytics and Supplier Experience Management. Syndigo, based in Chicago, combines PXM with MDM and PIM from Riversand (acquired 2021), GDSN from 1WorldSync (acquired 2025), and ratings and reviews through PowerReviews.
Both vendors sell reach to retailers. Syndigo states a network of 15,000+ brands and 3,500+ retailers as vendor figures. Salsify's network page validates content against retailer endpoint requirements but showed no readable totals when checked.
Both vendors also market AI agents. Salsify embeds Angie, a PXM agent for channel setup, formulas and workflows. Syndigo lists Synapse as agentic PXM and separate AI GoPilots, with no detail on the overview page. PIMvendors' view is that AI scales for descriptions, translation, extraction and classification, and remains unreliable for compliance data and end-to-end agentic workflows.
Ownership is moving on both sides. Salsify agreed in July 2026 to be acquired by Cinven, with no closing confirmed in sources checked on 14 October 2026. Syndigo is backed by Summit Partners, TJC and Battery Ventures after the 1WorldSync deal, and is still combining overlapping products.
PIMvendors has hands-on consulting experience with both Salsify and Syndigo. Both have sourced records in the PIM vendor directory.

Scenario by scenario
These five tests from the demo scenario library target points where Salsify and Syndigo are likely to behave differently. Bring your own retailers, recipients and sample data.
- SC-13, publish products to GS1 GDSN. Both vendors run a data pool. Check validation errors before sending, packaging hierarchy from consumer unit to pallet, and recipient responses returning to the product record. For Syndigo, confirm whether GDSN runs on the 1WorldSync platform or a merged one.
- SC-14, export a retailer or marketplace feed. Ask both vendors to confirm which of your top ten retailers are live endpoints. Test mapping maintenance by a business user and delta export on the second run.
- SC-02, supplier self-service onboarding with validation. Salsify SXM checks schema requirements for retailers onboarding suppliers. Syndigo's two-sided network routes brand content to retailers, so test how a retailer rejects and returns a submission.
- SC-25, create items from ERP with a clear master split. Salsify names SAP and Oracle integrations. Syndigo's App Marketplace lists no ERP app on the page reviewed, so ask for the integration route. Test attribute ownership and the failure log.
- SC-11, change a live product with approval and audit. Change a material on a published product. Check that retailers keep receiving the approved version until compliance signs off, and that the audit trail shows old and new values.
Pricing model contrast
Both vendors quote, so compare the modules your scenarios used. Neither Salsify nor Syndigo publishes prices on the pages reviewed. Ask each vendor whether network endpoints, the GDSN data pool, supplier onboarding, shelf analytics and AI features sit in the base subscription or carry separate fees.
Syndigo's portfolio adds two pricing questions. First, ask whether MDM, PIM and network services are sold as one subscription or as separate products. Second, ask how ratings and reviews and social proof are priced if they are in scope.
Retailers evaluating either vendor face a different model from brands. Ask who pays for supplier connections to the network, the retailer or each supplier, because that choice affects supplier adoption and onboarding speed.
Both contracts carry ownership risk. Salsify is awaiting a Cinven closing, and Syndigo is integrating 1WorldSync. Negotiate renewal caps, written roadmap commitments for the modules you buy and change-of-control language with either vendor. PIMvendors' negotiation advice applies: anchor high and keep the deeper discount as fallback. The contract checklist lists the clauses to check.
Migrating between Salsify and Syndigo
Migration between Salsify and Syndigo touches every retailer connection, because both act as the publication route to retail. Plan three workstreams.
- Data model mapping. Export attributes, value lists, retailer-specific mappings and completeness rules. Product content maps directly, while retailer requirement sets must be rebuilt per endpoint in the target network.
- GDSN and retailer connections. Moving between data pools needs planning with every recipient and GS1, so schedule it outside peak listing and range review periods. Reconnect each retailer endpoint and confirm acceptance before switching off the old route.
- Contract terms. Check notice periods, export formats and exit assistance. Ask whether retailer connections can run in parallel during the transition, and at what cost.
Archive audit history in a readable format for compliance attributes. The data migration guide covers reconciliation and cut-over.
How to decide
Salsify and Syndigo overlap on network reach, so the choice turns on scope and continuity. Work through these criteria.
- Master data scope. If suppliers, locations or customers need governed master data, test Syndigo's MDM. If product content and syndication are the whole scope, both qualify.
- Retailer coverage. Count which of your top retailers each vendor reaches as a live endpoint, in writing.
- Existing GDSN route. Current 1WorldSync users should weigh continuity with Syndigo against a planned move.
- Supplier direction. Retailers onboarding suppliers should test Salsify SXM against Syndigo's network route in SC-02.
- AI evidence. Run SC-19 with Angie and Synapse on your own products, with recorded human approval before publication. Score only what is shown live.
- Platform clarity. Ask Syndigo which platform your scenarios run on, and Salsify for its roadmap under Cinven.
Read the Salsify vendor profile and the Syndigo vendor profile, then run your profile through the PIM Fit Finder. Script both demos from the demo scenarios library.
Salsify and Syndigo both sell reach to the retailer, so test the reach you actually need. Bring your top ten retailer templates and your GDSN recipients to the demo, and ask Syndigo which platform your scenarios will run on.

Frequently asked questions
Which has the bigger retailer network, Salsify or Syndigo?
Syndigo states a network of 15,000+ brands and 3,500+ retailers, as vendor figures. Salsify's PXM Network page showed no readable totals when checked on 14 October 2026. Network size matters less than coverage of your own retailers. Ask both vendors to confirm, in writing, which of your top ten retailers are live endpoints and which require a custom export.
Do Salsify and Syndigo both offer GDSN?
Yes. Salsify describes a GS1-certified GDSN data pool within its PXM Network. Syndigo lists GDSN as a solution, and its September 2025 acquisition of 1WorldSync added a GDSN data pool that Summit Partners describes as ISO 27001 certified. Run scenario SC-13 with both and check that recipient responses return to the product record.
What does the 1WorldSync acquisition mean for Syndigo buyers?
Syndigo acquired 1WorldSync in September 2025, combining two content networks and overlapping product portfolios. Existing 1WorldSync customers are directed to a separate support page. Buyers should ask which platform their scenarios will run on, whether migrations are planned, and who carries migration cost. Put the answers into the contract as commitments.
What does the Cinven acquisition mean for Salsify buyers?
Salsify agreed in July 2026 to be acquired by Cinven, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions. No closing was confirmed in sources checked on 14 October 2026. Buyers should negotiate renewal caps, roadmap commitments for purchased modules and change-of-control language. Both Salsify and Syndigo are private equity backed, so the same protections apply to either contract.
Does Syndigo include MDM and Salsify not?
Syndigo lists MDM and PIM solutions, with MDM described as one shared record for products, suppliers and locations, and Riversand adding customer domain management. Salsify positions itself as product experience management and does not document multidomain MDM on the pages reviewed. Buyers needing customer or location master data should test that scope with Syndigo.
