How do I get my team to use the PIM?
Get a team to use the PIM by making it the only route to publish product data. Involve key users in design and testing, train by role on real tasks, and report quality gains every month. Switch off old spreadsheets and side exports at go-live, and give data owners visible accountability.
Teams use a PIM when it is the only way to get product data into channels and when it saves them time. Workflow design and governance change habits faster than training sessions.
Six measures drive adoption:
- Make the PIM the single route to publication. Switch off side exports and spreadsheet uploads at go-live.
- Involve key users from each team in design, scenario testing and acceptance, so the system fits their work.
- Train by role, on real tasks and real products, in short sessions close to go-live.
- Set up dashboards for completeness and quality per team, visible to managers.
- Give data owners accountability in their objectives, for example completeness above an agreed target.
- Collect feedback every 2 weeks in the first months and ship small improvements quickly.
Watch for workarounds. A team that keeps its own spreadsheet is signalling a gap in the data model, a slow workflow or missing permissions. Fix the cause, and the workaround disappears.
Adoption starts during selection. When key users score usability in scenario-based demos on their own tasks, the people who will work in the PIM daily help choose it. In the PIMvendors sequence of Data, Process, People, Tooling, adoption belongs to the People step.
