GPSR: definition and role in PIM

GPSR is an EU regulation that sets general safety requirements for consumer products, including information duties for products sold online.

In PIM practice, GPSR Article 19 is the most direct obligation. Online offers must show the manufacturer's name and contact details, plus the responsible person when the manufacturer is outside the EU. They must also identify the product with a picture and carry warnings in a language consumers understand. GPSR applies from 13 December 2024.

Illustrative example: a toy importer adds attributes for manufacturer and responsible person details, and links images and safety documents per locale. Marketplace export stops when any of these is missing.

In a selection, GPSR turns several attributes and asset links into compliance data. Buyers should test completeness rules for these fields per channel and locale, and the audit trail for changes. Marketplaces enforce the information, so gaps lead to rejected listings.
