EUDR: definition and role in PIM

EUDR is an EU regulation that requires operators and traders to show that covered commodities and products are deforestation-free and legally produced, with traceability data.

In PIM practice, EUDR adds traceability and due diligence data to products containing covered commodities. Those commodities include wood, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, rubber and cattle. Product records need links to supplier declarations and due diligence statements. In December 2025, the Council of the EU signed off a revision that postpones application to 30 December 2026. Micro and small operators get six extra months.

Illustrative example: a furniture brand flags every product containing wood, links each to supplier due diligence references and blocks publication when the reference is missing.

In a selection, EUDR mostly affects supplier onboarding and attribute ownership. Buyers should test how the PIM stores commodity flags and document references per product and supplier. Most geolocation data lives in specialised traceability systems, with the PIM holding the link.
