PIM SelectionThe independent guide to choosing a PIM

Informatica vs Stibo Systems: which PIM fits your situation

Informatica and Stibo Systems both offer product data inside enterprise master data management. Informatica Product 360 is one application in Informatica's MDM family, owned by Salesforce since 18 November 2025. Stibo Systems STEP is a standalone multidomain MDM platform, with new features shipped to SaaS customers only. The deciding factor is your existing data management estate and ecosystem strategy.

Choose Informatica when

  • You already run Informatica data integration, data quality or MDM across the enterprise.
  • Your strategy centres on Salesforce, and you want product data close to Data 360.
  • You want product, customer, supplier and reference data as separate 360 applications.

Choose Stibo Systems when

  • You want an MDM specialist that is independent of a CRM or cloud platform vendor.
  • SAP material master integration is a core requirement of your product data programme.
  • You want product, supplier, customer and location data on one STEP foundation.

The core difference

Informatica treats product data as one application in a data management family, while Stibo Systems treats it as one domain on a single multidomain foundation. Both are enterprise MDM vendors, and both carry a material change since 2025. The PIM vendor directory tracks both changes.

Informatica Product 360 sits next to Customer 360, Supplier 360 and Reference 360, built on Informatica MDM. It offers built-in data quality rules, a Supplier Portal, Media Manager, CLAIRE AI and a PXM agent for classification and enrichment. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica on 18 November 2025.

Stibo Systems STEP covers product, customer, supplier, location and business partner data on one foundation. It runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure or on-premise, but all feature updates are now exclusive to SaaS customers. The Stibo group is wholly owned by the Stibo Foundation.

PIMvendors has hands-on consulting experience with Stibo Systems STEP. The Informatica side of this comparison draws on public documentation and PIMvendors selection work.

Scenario by scenario

Five scenarios from the demo scenario library separate two MDM-rooted platforms. Run them with PIMvendors' scenario-based demo method at your real data volume.

SC-23: Enforce data quality rules with a dashboard

Provide 1,000 products with duplicates, invalid GTINs, missing units and inconsistent value lists. Informatica documents data quality rules with real-time validation. Ask both vendors to block bad data on entry and show a live dashboard. One-off reports fail this scenario.

SC-25: Create items from ERP with a clear master split

Provide 2,000 ERP items and state which attributes the ERP masters. Stibo Systems lists an SAP material master connector, while Informatica documents a cloud data integration connector. Check ownership per attribute and that enriched values survive the next sync.

SC-02: Supplier self-service onboarding with validation

Name two supplier personas with 20 products each. Informatica offers a Supplier Portal and Supplier 360, and Stibo Systems positions its Supplier Data Cloud. Watch whether supplier records and supplier product data share one governed model.

SC-24: Prove the history of a compliance attribute

Select a product whose hazard or allergen value changed twice in a year. Ask both vendors to prove which value each channel received on a given date.

SC-21: Auto-classify products with confidence thresholds

Provide 500 unclassified products and your target tree. Compare Informatica's PXM agent with Stibo Systems' AgentWorkx and ProductGen AI. Both should show a threshold, a review queue and an accuracy report.

Pricing model contrast

Neither Informatica nor Stibo Systems publishes prices for its product data offering, so scope and ecosystem drive the comparison. Both quote per customer.

Informatica quotes Product 360 as a subscription. Its MDM page states that Headless MDM and CLAIRE AI come at no extra cost. After the Salesforce acquisition, packaging may change, so ask for a price hold and renewal caps.

Stibo Systems quotes STEP by domains, modules and data volume. On-premise buyers face an extra cost question, because new features ship to SaaS customers only. The Stibo Systems pricing page tracks what is known.

Cost driver Informatica Stibo Systems
Public list prices None None
Scope driving price 360 applications and MDM scope Domains, modules and data volume
Ownership or policy risk Salesforce subsidiary since 2025 SaaS-only feature updates

The licence negotiation guide covers renewal caps and change-of-control clauses.

Migrating between Informatica and Stibo Systems

Migration between Informatica and Stibo Systems moves data between two MDM models, so the data model and match rules need redesign. Plan a trial migration of one product family and one supplier set.

Map these elements first:

  1. Product attributes, value lists, units and localised values.
  2. Variant and relation structures, confirmed live on both sides.
  3. Data quality and match rules, which do not transfer between platforms.
  4. Supplier records, from Supplier 360 to STEP's supplier domain or the reverse.
  5. Assets held in Informatica Media Manager or a separate DAM.

On the contract side, check data export rights, SaaS migration terms for on-premise instances and an overlap period. The data migration guide covers the full sequence.

How to decide

Choose between Informatica and Stibo Systems on data management estate, ecosystem strategy and SAP dependency. Neither platform is better overall.

  • Data management estate: existing Informatica integration, quality or MDM favours a closer look at Product 360.
  • Ecosystem strategy: a Salesforce-centred roadmap favours Informatica, and an independent MDM supplier favours STEP.
  • SAP dependency: SAP material master integration favours testing STEP's connector in SC-25.
  • Deployment: both offer on-premise, but STEP ships new features to SaaS only, and Informatica's post-acquisition plans need confirming.

Put three items in writing before the final round. From Informatica, get the Product 360 roadmap, the packaging after the Salesforce acquisition and the support commitment for non-Salesforce integrations. From Stibo Systems, get the domains in scope, the quarterly update calendar and the support window for your version. From both, get the export format for data, match rules and history, plus an overlap period. Then run PIM reference checks with customers who have lived through a major upgrade on each platform.

Read the Informatica profile and Stibo Systems profile, then check fit in the PIM Fit Finder. Build the demo script from the demo scenario library.

Informatica and Stibo Systems are both credible for enterprise product data. The difference sits in the ecosystem you commit to, so put roadmap and integration commitments in the contract and test them in the demos.

Frequently asked questions

Is Informatica or Stibo Systems better for product data?

Neither Informatica nor Stibo Systems is better for every enterprise. Informatica Product 360 suits organisations that already run Informatica data management or a Salesforce-centred strategy. Stibo Systems STEP suits organisations that want a standalone multidomain MDM with an SAP material master connector. Test both with scenarios SC-23 and SC-25 on your own data before deciding.

How does the Salesforce acquisition affect Informatica Product 360?

Salesforce completed the acquisition on 18 November 2025 and plans a single data pipeline with MDM on Data 360. Informatica committed to keep supporting its partner ecosystem, but the release names no specific non-Salesforce integrations. Buyers should get the Product 360 roadmap, packaging and non-Salesforce integration commitments in writing before signing.

Can Informatica Product 360 and Stibo STEP run on-premise?

Informatica offers Product 360 as SaaS and on-premise. Stibo Systems offers STEP as SaaS on Microsoft Azure and on-premise, but states that all feature updates are exclusive to SaaS customers. On-premise buyers of either platform should ask for the support end date of their version and the terms of a move to SaaS.

How do Informatica and Stibo Systems price their platforms?

Neither vendor publishes prices for its product data offering. Informatica quotes Product 360 as a subscription, and its MDM page states that Headless MDM and CLAIRE AI come at no extra cost. Stibo Systems quotes STEP by scope. Compare three-year totals for the same domains, data volume and integrations.

Is this comparison based on hands-on experience with both vendors?

PIMvendors has hands-on consulting experience with Stibo Systems STEP. Informatica falls outside the platforms PIMvendors has implemented, so the Informatica side of this comparison draws on public documentation and on PIMvendors selection work.
